Normal Day in Backward N. Carolina: Three Dead in a Single Mass Shooting

In many ways, the US is a rich Haiti. Violence in the US thrives under a thin veneer of wealth and respectability. Beneath the surface, the gangrene of violence strikes every day. In 2023, the most recent year for which complete data is available, 46,728 people died from gun-related injuries, according to the CDC.

And Americans are by and large happy to pay that price just for enjoying the useless hobby of owning a gun. In serious democracies, violence is the exclusive monopoly of the country's armed forces. But not in the US where any jackass can buy a gun, and this is intimately tied to the violent birth and history of the country. Lawlessness prevailed in large swaths of the country for much of the 300 years between the mid 1600s and the mid 1900s. The US was born out of the womb of violence: Millions of Black African slaves imported for free labor, and millions of indigenous Indians massacred and herded in reservations, while white European settlers from a number of countries continued to wage wars against one another for the acquisition of land and territories.

No wonder then the "close" relationship betwen the US and Israel, itself born out of a massive illegal migration and invasion by European settlers and the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the indigenous Palestinians herded into refugee camps across the region, both inside and outside of Palestine. The colonial narrative is always the same: The American and Zionist settlers both say they are/were "civilizing" the natives by raping, stealing, expelling, and otherwise dehumanizing their respective indigenous populations. Just yesterday, the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu was bullshiting the world at the UN with the blatant admission that his colony in Palestine has one objective: To bring and defend western civilization (which ironically ought to belong in the West) in the Middle East. Are we still in the 19th century?

And he's doing an excellent job: Western civilization thrives on colonialism and the maltreatment of "uncivilized" indigenous people. Netanyahu is in fact imitating the Chinese Communist dictatorship whose colonialism includes "civilizing" the backward and primitive Tibetans and Uighurs with erasure of identity, ethnic cleansing, Chinese settlements, and re-education "concentration camps".

Finally, remember that Israel, among all other colonial states and empires, is the only one to claim the absurdity that it needs protection against its own colonized Palestinian victims. Palestine over the past 100 years has been destroyed and is nearing complete annihilation, its people's identity as the original people of the land is being distorted by filthy Zionist propaganda, their lives have been turned into a hellish cycle of displacement from one refugee camp to another.... And Israel doesn't recognize that the Palestinians are a nation, and that they have an inalienable right to defend themselves against a foreign invader who took their land and is exterminating them.

If there is any truth to the GREAT REPLACEMENT theory, it is embodied in the tragedy of Palestine: One heterogeneous mass of Europeans from central and eastern Europe has illegally migrated and invaded someone else's land, Palestine, and is actively and gradually trying to replace the original indigenous people by masss murdering them and chasing them out of their ancestral lands, while importing more foreign settlers to take their place.

But the American Way of Life is alive and kicking in the US: 47,000 killed in 2023 by gun violence. And Trump is encouraging and inciting violence by the white anglo-saxon settlers who pretend to defend themselves against everyone else. Just like the Zionists in Palestine.

Here is a single example, repeated hundreds of times in a single day, in the backward states of the union where gun violence is a proud component of the culture.

Police were investigating a shooting in Southport, North Carolina, Saturday. - WECT

Three people were killed and at least eight others injured when a gunman on a boat pulled up to a waterfront bar in North Carolina Saturday night and opened fire, officials said.

A suspect is in custody in relation to the shooting at American Fish Company in Southport, city public information officer ChyAnn Ketchum said in a news release. The extent of the injuries is unknown.

The shooting adds to the growing list of bars, restaurants, shopping centers, schools and other venues in the US generally thought of as safe that have experienced gun violence. There have been at least 320 mass shootings – with at least four people shot, not including the shooter – in the US so far this year (2025), according to the Gun Violence Archive. [That is an average of almost one mass shooting every day]

The shooting in Southport happened just before 9:30 p.m., when a boat approached the bar and the sole person onboard opened fire, Ketchum said. The shooter then fled toward the nearby Intracoastal Waterway, heading in the direction of the neighboring community of Oak Island.

About half an hour later, a US Coast Guard crew spotted someone matching the suspect’s description loading a boat at a public ramp in Oak Island and detained them, the release said.

The individual is being held by Oak Island police and is expected to be transferred to Southport authorities for questioning, with assistance from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

A motive has not been determined, but there is “no known further credible threat to the public,” the release said.

Southport is located near the mouth of the Cape Fear River, roughly 30 miles south of Wilmington.

CNN reached out to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the Coast Guard and American Fish Company for comment.
