Donald Trump's radical (paving over lawns, tacky shoddy gold everywhere, including his personal toilet seat which he doesn't like to share with Melania) revamping of the White House appears to send a signal to the country that he is planning on staying there a long, a very long long time. Plenty of factors (age, no third term, extreme unpopularity...) would in principle make that possibility unlikely, but with a demented narcissistic criminal felon like him, he'll use any illegal way he can muster to stay in power beyond what is constitutionally allowed.
Since the start of his second term, Trump replaced the White House Rose Garden lawn with a cement patio. The formerly lush, green garden, which has undergone various changes by former administrations, has been replaced with a concrete slab that included the same striped patio umbrellas as the ones in Mar-a-Lago.

Trump also plans on building a 90,000-square-foot ballroom similar to the Mar-a-Lago club’s Grand Ballroom, not to mention that the Oval Office have been speckled with tacky disgusting gold embellishments and decals, echoing the tune of the Trump brand.
Those drastic remodeling changes augur an underlying conviction in Trump's head that the White House will become his permanent dwelling, which is normal for a dictator. As for his age, there are no legal impediments to having very old presidents, including those who cheat their way past their constitutional limits.
Indeed, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter, American political writer and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh recently said:
“There’s still integrity in America right now but as somebody said
recently, we’re in existential crisis right now. And the president is a
man who wants to be here for life. He wants to be commander of America.
My belief is that’s his absolute sole mission. He wants to not have
another election, because under the Constitution he cannot…. That’s what
he’s going to be doing for the next three years....And I will tell you, I don’t have the kind of access to him,
but I’m working on it…. This a bad time for America, and because of
that, because of this man’s megalomania and lack of information, it’s a
bad time for the world.”
