Heather Pippen, a mother in Ohio, was sentenced to consecutive five-year prison terms for endangering her children through abuse and neglect.
DAYTON, Ohio (Court TV) — An Ohio judge had no mercy for a mother who pleaded guilty to endangering her own children after a video showed them being abused.

Heather Pippen, 35, pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering children by corporal punishment, strangulation and obstructing official business. While prosecutors commended her for taking responsibility by pleading guilty, they urged Judge E. Gerald Parker to sentence her to prison, despite the defense's recommendation of probation.
Police were first called to Pippen's home in April after a video circulating on Facebook appeared to show a man abusing a child in her home. Pippen, who was responsible for caring for seven children — five of her own and two of her sister's — said she allowed her romantic partner, Stephanas Golden, to help her discipline and parent them.
When investigators interviewed the children in the house, they reported that they were constantly beaten with a paddle, belt or extension cord. The child who was seen in the video online, identified in court records as "V.R.," said that she was regularly hit with a "whooping stick," which she said was made of "several pieces of Hot Wheels race car track that had been duct-taped together." V.R. said she was being hit in the video because she was having a meltdown, and described a previous incident in which Pippen had choked her "while Golden sat on top of her and covered her mouth."
Referring to the video, Parker said it was "the worst six minutes I've seen," and was shocked when Pippen said she had never seen it. "If you want to sit and watch six minutes of torture, we can do that," Parker said.
Pippen's attorney, Christopher Fogt, said his client was remorseful for what had happened. "Pippen was a good mother," Fogt said in a sentencing memorandum filed with the court, saying that his client merely "lost control of her household." Fogt described Pippen as "sincerely remorseful. … Ms. Pippen accepts that even though she was not involved in much of the abuse of the children and did not know the extent of the abuse, her inattention and lack of control created the environment in which the children were abused. Ms. Pippen will never overcome the pain of what she did to her children and her sister's children."
Parker wasn't moved by Fogt's statements to the court, saying that the video clearly showed Pippen was aware of the abuse. "You were there," he said, addressing the defendant. "I watched you. I heard you."
One of the things he heard, Parker said, was the defendant telling her daughter, as she was being beaten, "Oh well, girl. Bye." Parker tossed those exact words back at the defendant as he sentenced her to consecutive five-year prison sentences.

'Crybaby' pastor Caleb Flynn in tears in court and on video as interrogation tape plays for jury

Caleb Flynn pleads not guilty to charges of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, and claims he found her dead in their home, despite evidence suggesting otherwise.
TROY, Ohio (Court TV) — Caleb Flynn sat crying in court on Friday as he watched his interrogation with police, during which he also sobbed while telling investigators that he found his wife dead.

Caleb Flynn, 40, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he murdered his wife, Ashley Flynn, 37, in their home on Feb. 16, 2026. Caleb Flynn called 911 early that morning to report that someone had broken into his home and killed his wife.
In the interrogation video, played for the jury on Friday afternoon, Caleb Flynn appears red-faced and in tears as he walked Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan through what happened. In the video, the defendant claimed he fell asleep in the living room but was woken in the middle of the night by what he thought were his dogs moving around. Caleb Flynn said that he went to check on his two daughters and had lain down on the bottom bunk with one of the girls when he heard a loud noise from the house. When he went to the master bedroom to check on his wife, he said he found her dead in their bed.
Caleb Flynn said that he saw the side door to the garage open and hypothesized that was how the intruder got into his home. But investigators previously testified at trial that the damage to the door was only visible when the door was unlocked and open — meaning an intruder could not have caused it.
Hours after his first interview, Caleb Flynn sat down with Morgan again, during which the detective pointed out that the garage door wasn't latched and that the victim had been shot at "point-blank range."
"In all my time of being in law enforcement, 16 years, plus my training and experience, normally when someone is murdered, there's a motive. There's something behind the situation," Morgan said. But when Morgan asked Caleb Flynn who might want to hurt his wife, the defendant denied any knowledge of issues inside or outside of the home.

"There was a neighbor that said they had heard you guys arguing at different points," Morgan prompted. "The last argument we had was Friday," Caleb Flynn said, adding they had clashed over plans for their older daughter. "I have no idea who would say they could hear us arguing."
Prosecutors say that Caleb Flynn had been plotting his wife's death because he wanted to be with his lover, Alleigha Botner, who testified that the two had been in a relationship for more than a year and that she had begged him to leave his wife multiple times.
As the interrogation tapes played for the jury on Friday, Caleb Flynn became visibly upset; he cried and frequently dabbed his face with tissues. Though he was dry-eyed for Botner's testimony, he sobbed through much of the first two days of his trial. Before his arrest, Caleb Flynn appeared on one season of "American Idol," during which he described himself as a "crybaby" in an interview with producers.
