[Update 08-Feb-2025]: Morgan Ortagus, the new and third parallel envoy of Donald Dumb to the Middle East (after Witkoff and Trager), was yesterday in Beirut giving her middle finger to the Lebanese President by flashing a huge ring bearing the Star of David as she shook hands with him.
She lavished the drooling culturally-submissive Lebanese with statements about how much she loved Lebanon, how many Lebanese-American friends she has, and how beautiful the country is, etc. She then took two stupid questions from dumb Lebanese journalists who couldn't even phrase a correct question in proper English. She should have been asked the following question:
"What should Lebanon do with the 500,000 Palestinian refugees it has hosted since 1948 and 1967?"
Should Lebanon allow them to permanently settle in the country, render the Christians an even more vanishing minority (from which her Lebanese American friends hail, having fled the American-managed 50-year long destruction of the country) and ultimately turn Lebanon into yet another boring and potentially radical Muslim country? Or should Lebanon do what Israel is doing in self-defense: Carpet bomb the Palestinian refugee camps, then offer the refugees a "voluntary departure" program to whatever country that might want them, i.e. none?

As it bends over backwards to reward its Zionist colony south of the Lebanese border, whatever the US had done, is doing, or will do in Lebanon has only one objective in sight: Israel's expansionist welfare.
As this moment, the US is pressuring the new Lebanese president and his prime minister into an openly hostile posture with Hezbollah. While most Lebanese are sick and tired of the Iranian terrorist organization and potentially approve of the US pressure on Joseph Aoun and Nawwaf Salam as they try to form a government with the least Hezbollah influence, there is always a suspicion in the back of their minds that the US is not doing this for Lebanon's sake.
For one, the history of US policy on Lebanon over the past five decades has been to backstab, to betray, to sell out, to undermine, to deny support ... to those Lebanese who have always been friends with, and ideologically closer to, the US and the West in general. How many times have the Lebanese tried to rescue their country from the clutches of such inimical countries as Shiite Syria and Iran (in recent decades), but equally back in the 1970s and 1980s from cowardly and hypocritical countries like Sunni Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait and Libya that financed and armed terror groups (anti-American anti-western Socialists, Islamists, Communists, Baathists, and others) to fuel the 1975-1990 war against the Lebanese state institutions, only to find the US and the West encouraging these inimical countries and organizations to complete their rape and destruction of the country instead of assisting the Lebanese in salvaging their country?
Why? Because a destabilized Lebanon would more easily absorb the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees ethnically cleansed by Israel since 1947. Being demographically a very diverse country, Lebanon is an easy prey to destabilization and the best candidate to accommodate yet another ethnic community. The fears of the Lebanese are now being confirmed by Donald Dumb who has no qualms demanding the forcible removal of the indigenous Palestinian population from its ancestral homeland and its dispersal - a third time after 1948 and 1967 - to neighboring countries like Jordan and Egypt, but also very likely to Lebanon as well. As he cleans up the "human rubble" from Gaza, Trump wants to dump it in Lebanon, among other places. What sublime American values of justice, freedom and self-determination!
Second, and not to be redundant, the dumb President of the US has now finally demonstrated what US policy in the Middle East is all about: Provide cover and defense for all the outrages against law and morality that the American Zionist colony in Palestine, a.k.a. Israel, has been doing and continues to do. Hear the truth from the mouths of babes! Donald Dumb's pronouncements on Gaza is all you need to understand where all of this is heading. Now we know the truth.
Hence, after failing to withdraw from south Lebanon last month as required by the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, the latter demanded and obtained an extension of its occupation through this February 18. But now it seems that Israel wants to permanently keep five hilltop positions in the Lebanese south and to continue flying its drones and planes over Lebanese airspace in violation of the ceasefire agreement. What better gift to Hezbollah than grant it its only pretext to remain extant: Fake and Quixotic "resistance" against a fake and minimalist "occupation"? Just enough Israeli "occupation" to give fodder for Hezbollah to "resist", which in turn gives Israel fodder to "defend itself", and so on. It's political, but deadly, theater whose objective is to keep savaging Lebanon's desperate attempts to restore normal life in a once prosperous and civilized country.
The Lebanese are caught in a boxing ring between two criminal entities: Israel and Iran. The referee is a corrupt and biased, cruel and imbecilic United States foreign policy. The Lebanese have no lost love for Israel or Iran or Syria or any of the fanatic religious theocracies around them, be they Jewish or Islamic. But they should not let themselves be dragged by the Americans into a civil war for Israel's sweet eyes. It's a difficult balancing act, but whatever the upcoming Lebanese government does, if one sees the light the day any time soon, must be to satisfy Lebanon's objectives only. After five decades of indifference and collusion with the Syrian and Iranian killers and kidnappers of its own citizens, much of it paid by the blood and torment of the Lebanese people, the mighty US is in no moral position to demand that the Lebanese achieve Israel's goals.
If the US wants to eliminate Hezbollah, it must put boots on the ground and expend its own blood and treasure, rather than shove the Lebanese into a civil war - again - between Hezbollah and the Lebanese Army. The Americans tried to blow up Lebanon in 1975 by shoving it into a war with the Palestinians, Israel and the Arabs. The sordid plan to make Lebanon a substitute Palestine didn't work. The Palestinian militias were expelled, the consolation prize went to Lebanon's Muslims - Al-Qaeda type Sunnis (prime minister) and Hezbollah-type Shiites (Speakership of Parliament) - in the Taef Agreement. Syria's Baathist dictatorship too was rewarded for its collusion with the Israeli-US thugs and was granted control of the country. The only losers were the Lebanese Christians who theoretically are America's best friends.
When the Lebanese were pushed by the US into a military strategy against Yasser Arafat's organizations back in the 1970s and 1980s, the hypocrite US condescendingly lectured the Lebanese (but not the genocidal Israeli cleansers of Palestine) on human rights and colluded with Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab-Muslim ultranationalists in the destruction of the only liberal and least religious country in the region.
The Lebanese will not fall for a repeat.
