‘Nearly Murdered’: Jewish Reporter Who Filmed Violent Attack by Israeli Settlers Calls Out US Media for Ignoring Story

A Jewish-American journalist is calling out U.S. news outlets for ignoring a violent settler attack in the West Bank that he and American colleagues found themselves in the middle of and captured on camera in now-viral footage that has drawn condemnation from the United Nations.
Brooklyn-based reporter Jasper Nathaniel was traveling through the olive fields near Turmus Ayya on Oct. 19 when he filmed masked Israeli settlers assaulting Palestinian farmers.
The attackers, wielding clubs and other makeshift weapons, can be seen beating several people, including a 55-year old woman, as Nathaniel shouted at them to stop.

“The IDF lured us into an ambush,” Nathaniel wrote on X shortly before posting the footage. “Brutal settler attack in Turmus’ayya olive fields. Many injuries, including a woman knocked unconscious with a club and beaten repeatedly.”

In a later post, Nathaniel accused the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) of facilitating the violence, saying the mob descended “moments after the IDF sped away.”
Despite the graphic footage circulating widely online, Nathaniel said he was “surprised” by the lack of coverage from major U.S. outlets and claimed that the “group of Americans” – of which he was one – “were nearly murdered.”

The clip was shared by Francesca Albanese, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on human rights in Palestine, who later wrote, “For 2 years, the world has seen scenes like this from the West Bank. I wonder where decent Israelis are; those who protest in Tel Aviv.”
