A billboard was recently placed in Times Square by the American-Arab Discrimination Committee to emphasize and remind americans that Jesus was a Palestinian. Two thousand years ago, Palestine was a Roman colony - Palaestina - 2,000 years ago when Jesus was born.
The name Palaestina comes from the Philistines - the same name as today's Palestinians - a people who conquered the region from the sea at the same time that nomadic Hebrews arrived from the desert and violently seized the land of Canaan, supposedly because the Hebrew god Yahweh gave them the land. The Hebrews mass murdered the Canaanites and ethnically cleansed Canaan, including Palaestina - as described in detail in the Torah.
"Jesus is Palestinian, Merry Christmas," reads one billboard from the committee, which on its website describes itself as the biggest Arab-American grassroots organization in the United States. Jesus was born in Bethlehem - Beyt Lahm in Arabic - and grew up in Nazareth - Nassira in Arabic. All original biblical names in the Aramaic language that Jesus spoke have been distorted by westerners. Jesus knew Hebrew only as a language of religious rituals and prayers, (just like Catholics know Latin), but he spoke Aramaic-Phoenician because he was born and grew up on the border of Phoenicia-Lebanon.
In a recent post on Instagram, the Committee said that its billboards were meant to bring awareness to the conflict between Palestine and Israel.
One slide in the Instagram post read, "As Gaza endures genocide, and the birthplace of Jesus is under siege and occupation, we reclaim a fundamental truth in the heart of Times Square. In a season of peace, we speak for those who’ve been denied peace."
"Beyond consumerism, we center unity, heritage and Palestine," another slide in the post read.
According to the post, the billboards are meant to "Reclaim the truth, honoring the Palestinian refugee born in Bethlehem," combat the "ongoing erasure of Palestinian identity, culture, and rootedness to the land, and to assert truth and reject silence".
Modern-day Bethlehem, revered as the birthplace of Jesus Christ, is located in Arab Palestine which has been militarily occupied by western illegal Jewish migrants and colonial settlers. Bethlehem has no Jewish population, it has a Muslim and Christian population, although Zionist settlers keep trying to steal it. The city at the time of the birth of Jesus was located in Roman Palaestina in the district of Judaea. Bethlehem's Christian population as a percentage of the area has dwindled considerably since the 1950s because of Jewish Zionist racism and attempts at forcibly changing the demographics of Palestine with illegal Jewish European and American migrations, settlements and theft of Palestinian territories.
The only period of time during which unruly and constantly warring Hebrew nomadic tribes ruled in Palestine (David and Solomon's kingdoms) lasted some 300 years between between 1000 BC and 700 BC. After that, the Hebrew kingdoms disappeared and never returned. Then, ancient Iraqis known as Assyrians ruled there for some 250 years until the Babylonians (also ancient Iraqis) arrived and took over. It was common for all ancient conquering empires to take conquered but rebellious populations and deport them as slaves. Those who adapted to the new order stayed and converted to the religions of their conquerors.
Then the Persians (today's Iranians) supplanted the Babylonians for some two centuries (538 BC - 332 BC) until the Greeks under Alexander the Great took and established the Hellenistic empire throughout the region. Egypt, Phoenicia, Syria and Palestine became Greek. Beginning in 63 BC, the Romans inherited the Greek empire and ruled in Palestine.
When the Romans converted to Christianity (~340 AD), they violently imposed the new religion on all their conquered territories. The vast majority of the Hebrews living in Palaestina converted - mostly by coercion - to Christianity and stayed in the land. When the Muslim Arabs arrived in Palestine in 638 AD, there were no Jews left in Palestine. Most of them had converted to Christianity and were - again - forced to convert to Islam, which means that today's indigenous Palestinians (both Christians and Muslims) are the descendants of the Hebrews of Roman Palaestina. Ironically, the western European Jews who founded Israel are relatively recent converts to Judaism and are now brutalizing the original Hebrews of Palestine.
Zionist propaganda wants the world to believe that ancient Palestine belongs to the European converts to Judaism who illegally migrated to Palestine during the British mandate (1920-1947). Nothing could be further from the truth. The impulse for the creation of the State of Israel is a purely European colonial one that was part of the larger european colonial enterprises between the 18th and late 19th centuries.
After the Muslim Arabs who ruled Palestine between 638 and 1099 AD, the European Christian Crusaders ruled there for some 200 years (1099 - 1298). The Muslim Arab leader Salaheddine (Saladin) who conquered Jerusalem from the Crusaders ruled there (~ 1300 - 1500 AD) until another Muslim, but non-Arab, people - the Ottoman Turks - took over and stayed there until WWI when the British colonial crooks were granted a mandate over Palestine by the League of Nations in 1920. Therefore, for some 2700 years, the Hebrews-Jews did not rule or even exist in Palestine. There may have been occasional residual Jewish populations there, but for the most part Palestine had no significant Jewish populations or political influence, let alone any attribute of statehood.
The British "mandate" was based on the recognition by the international community (League of Nations) that the Palestinians, now free from 400 years of a brutal Turkish occupation, were deemed sufficiently advanced not to be subjected to direct colonial rule. The British were only supposed to assist the Palestinians in establishing their state institutions and drafting a constitution. The French were mandated with the same exact task in neighboring Lebanon. While the French did deliver - Lebanon was given a constitution in 1926 and the country developed its institutions until the French ended their mandate in 1943 - the British crooks had other schemes up their sleeve.
The modern crime of creating an artificial state of Israel is essentially a European colonial enterprise. In exchange for money from European Jewish bankers to fund their war effort, the British "gifted" Palestine - a land that did not belong to them and which they were only supposed to lead toward full self-determination - to European Jewish converts who dreamed of their own empire alongside the French, British, Dutch, Portuguese, German, and Spanish empires. They thus began a huge wave of illegal migration to Palestinian shores. Those illegal European Jewish migrants arrived in Palestine during the 1920s and 1930s, armed, wealthy, sophisticated and loaded with Nazi-inspired ideologies and methods they inherited from their Fascist and Nazi Christian European tormentors. They proceeded with their terrorist organizations (Haganah, Stern, Lehi, Irgun, and others) to persecute the indigenous Palestinians, demolish and erase their villages, force them to leave with fear and terror into refugee camps (that still dot the entire region, Gaza being one huge refugee camp from the 1948 extermination) and create their artificial state of Israel. Some 600 Palestinian villages were erased from the map, either entirely destroyed or replaced with colonial Jewish "settlements". Zionists claim, after 2700 years, that they are entitled to Palestine because the Hebrews ruled there for some 300 years, using violent and brutal methods they learned from Fascist Europe.
The Holocaust was perpetrated by European Christians, not by Arabs, Palestinians or Muslims. Why should the Palestinians pay the price of losing their country for a crime they have nothing to do with?
In a statement, Adeb Ayoub, national executive director of the American-Arab Discrimination Committee, said, "There will be disagreements and debates about names. However, there is one thing that is indisputable - Israel has been killing Christians in the birthplace of Jesus with impunity for decades. Yesterday was the first time Christmas was celebrated in Bethlehem in 3 years. American taxpayers have been paying for the persecution of Christians by Israel, and they are waking up to that fact."
Ayoub added, "Of note, the Foreign Ministry of Israel also purchased ad space on that same billboard to counter our messaging, so American taxpayers are paying for the killing of Christians, and for the propaganda campaign to cover the atrocities by Israel. The coverage by media outlets about the killing of Christians by Israel has been non-existent. However, put a billboard up in Times Square and the coverage is there. Sadly, this billboard is the only way media outlets will discuss Christians in the Holy Land. Thank you for taking time to write about Christians living in the Holy Land.
