A Lebanese Case: Size Sometimes Matters for the Wrong Reason

There have been many Lebanese immigrants and Americans of Lebanese descent who have excelled in American sports or who have contributed much to their lands of emigration. Far more than can be revealed by their names because they often westernized them and also because the vast majority of Lebanese emigrants were Maronite Catholic Christians who adapted and integrated well with their fellow Italian, Irish, and other Catholic immigrants. Former Senator George Mitchell of Maine (Irish father, Lebanese mother) who clinched the Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland, Ralph Nader of Connecticut (both parents Lebanese) who revolutionized automobile safety standards and ran for president at some point, poet and mystic Kalil Gibran, actress Salma Hayek and actor Tony Shalhoub....

But many others have also sullied the reputation of Lebanese immigrants, including Dr. Lawrence Gerard "Larry" Nassar who preyed for decades on young female athletes, or Dr. Farid Fata, a hematologist/oncologist and mastermind of one of the largest health care frauds in U.S. history, or Mossad Boulos whose submissive slavery to Donald Dumb (on account of his son's marriage with a Trump daughter) is nothing to be proud of, and others. Sadly, the Lebanese rarely mention the bad actors and concentrate on the successful ones.

But of late, one of them, Matt Kalil has excelled - or perhaps failed - in one particular aspect of his very private life, especially with his former wife. He apparently is XXX large when it comes to his reproductive instrument, so much so that it led his ex-wife to recently justify her breakup with him because of "incompatibility" between their respective devices of reproduction.

I used to wonder, upon reading Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver Travels", whether Gulliver had problems with the tiny Lilliputians or their giant counterparts of Brobdingnag. People once sent me a video of a huge dog trying to mate with a tiny dog, an endless struggle against "Imposssible Mission" music.

I don't know if the Lebanese back in the old country should brag about their export to the Americas or feel sorry for Mr. Kalil. In his case, the proverbial "size matters" went in the wrong direction, unfortunately.
