At Long Last, Sudden Impulse of Patriotic Integrity by a Lebanese Muslim Leader

Muslims in Lebanon have a distorted idea of patriotism: If you have an enemy who is Muslim, domestic or otherwise, you never, never, criticize them in public. Closing Muslim ranks is like closing Jewish ranks: One's religious tribe takes precedence over the truth or the facts or one's own personal opinion.

But, when the shaft is being prepared to impale you and you feel the razor's edge on your neck, you break down and the truth comes out. For decades, Lebanon's Muslim leaders defended the Palestinians military takeover of the state because the Palestinians were Muslims. They in fact became the allies of Yasser Arafat and his PLO, and fought against their own Lebanese Christian countrymen. Religion has precedence over national identity.

When Arafat was gone, the Shiite Muslim Hezbollah took over as the only renegade Muslim militia to violate the 1989 Taef Agreement by keeping its weapons. It gradually took over the state and imposed itself on the country, leading it into Quixotic wars against Israel, the latest of which we are living through today. But Muslim leaders, be they Sunnis or Shiites, allowed covered for Hezbollah, defending it and protecting it. Even the fat Saudi-affiliated bastard Sunni prime minister Rafik Hariri spent his years in office praising the very people of Hezbollash who were to later assassinate him.

For a Muslim to speak the truth against another Muslim is like pulling teeth. Now that Lebanon is in absolute disintegration, thanks only to it being led by Muslims since the 1980s, now that the gun is literally around every one of their stiff necks, Lebanese Muslim leaders are beginning to violate the taboo.

To wit, the pathetically incompetent prime minister of a dysfunctional caretaker government of mostly pro-Hezbollah ministers, one corrupt Sunni Muslim billionnaire by the name of Najib Mikati appears to be flailing like a wilted leaf whirling around the winds of October.

In the absence of any Christian leader in the domestic political theater - no Christian president has been elected by a Shiite-obstructed parliament for the past two years, the corrupt and incompetent Muslims are handling the comatose Lebanon they have fabricated over the past 30 years or so.

Some two weeks ago, a triad of the best available Lebanese Muslim leaders got together after Hassan Nasrallah was killed, and suddenly had a plan to "save the country". The same imbecile billionnaire PM Mikati representing the Sunni Muslims, the senile autocrat and highly corrupt Speaker of Parliament the Shiite Muslim Nabih Berri who personally is overseing the obstruction of electing a president and who is standing in as the de facto leader of Hezbollah, and the chameleon Druze Muslim leader Walid Jumblatt whose unprincipled political positions are like his undewear - he changes them every day.

The trio stood before the cameras and proudly announced they are surrendering to all the demands of the Christians and the international community, demands that have been before them for decades but which, Muslim tribal solidarity oblige, they never dared utter in public. They agreed to implement resolution 1701, send the Lebanese army to the south (which they have rejected since 1969), disengage Lebanon from Gaza, and elect the Christian president they have been obstructing for at least two years... but only after a ceasfire between Hezbollah and Israel. A ceasefire is impossible for many reasons: Israel might not want it; Hezbollah would be committing suicide if it agrees to it. But still, there was some hope in the simple fact the Muslim leaders uttered the unspeakable for once in their life.

For the record, the Muslims of Lebanon have denied their own Lebanese army its right and obligation to be present along the southern border with Israel and along the northern and eastern borders with Syria. Why? In the south, they delegated the defense of Lebanon to Yasser Arafat and his PLO between 1969 and 1982, then to the Iranian Hezbollah between 1982 to the present time. It is only now after six decades of mindless idiocy, they claim they want the army in the south. On Tuesday, Mikati said that his country was ready to bolster the army's presence in the country's south if there is a ceasefire. "The Lebanese state is ready to impose its sovereignty over all of Lebanese territory," he said.

But these Muslim leaders were wimps, and they are still wimps. Not three days after their daring pronouncement they receive the unrequested visit by the Iranian Foreign Minister, followed by a few days by the Iranian Speaker of parliament, both of whom whipped the Lebanese Muslim leaders back into the brotherly Muslim ranks: NO, you will not disengage Lebanon from Gaza. As long as Gaza is being reduced to rubble, Lebanon too shall be reduced to rubble. You must go on fighting the Zionist enemy, while we in Iran will help you only with our sentiments and emotions and words.

Very quickly, the three Muslim leaders reneged on their press conference and the matter was closed. They obeyed the diktat of the dinosaur ruler in Tehran who wants them, alone and the smallest country in the entire Muslim-Arab world, to destroy their country in order to fight Israel and liberate Palestine.

As the rubble builds up and the knife closes around their own necks, and the Christians of Lebanon openly speaking of separating Christian Lebanon from the Muslims (who will be free to rejoin the fantastic country of Syria next door), Muslim leaders are finally showing signs of integrity and courage. Out of nowhere, the sad-looking moron [See picture below] Prime Minister Najib Mikati yesterday dared accuse Iran of interfering in internal Lebanese affairs. Wow, finally a miracle. A sudden neuron of dignity has fired in his skull.

Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati speaks during a press conference in Beirut

The news as reported on Friday is that Mikati has made "a rare rebuke to Iran" by saying that Tehran's ambasssador should be summoned and questioned over reported comments by a senior Iranian official that Iran would be ready to help "negotiate" to implement a U.N. resolution on Lebanon. Mikati's own government's incompetence was exposed by the Iranians: The Lebanese can't negotiate; we'll negotiate on their behalf. Poked in the ass, Mikati reacted and said in a statement that the Iranians comments amounted to "a blatant interference in Lebanese affairs".

Criticism of Iran by top Lebanese officials is highly unusual, particularly given Tehran's sponsorship of the powerful Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, which is currently locked in battles against Israeli troops along Lebanon's southern border.

In an interview published in France's Le Figaro on Thursday, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf said that his country is ready to "negotiate" with France to implement United Nations Resolution 1701. Mikati said on Friday that he was "surprised" by Ghalibaf's comments and said they were an attempt to "establish a guardianship over Lebanon that we reject". But that guardianship has been around for 30 years, Mr. Mikati, didn't you notice? How come you denounce it only now? Your own fellow Christian leaders have been telling you that Lebanon is under Iranian occupation. You didn't hear them? Or were you busy pilfering the state treasury by taking the postal service (LibanPoste) monopoly for yourself, making the Lebanese people pay you in US dollars for the mediocre services you provide while you pay the state back in the worthless Lebanese Lira.

In a sudden tremor, Mikati discovered that such a negotiation was the prerogative of the Lebanese state and asked Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib to summon Iran's Chargé d'Affaires in Beirut.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese foreign ministry, led by Abdallah Bou-Habib who always has the sorry look of someone who has just defecated in his pants (see picture above), issued a statement loaded with the usual euphemisms and emphasizing Lebanon's "keenness on making the necessary diplomatic efforts to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon by applying Resolution 1701 while protecting its sovereignty... and the security of its people and civil peace". Case closed. The brains of these imbeciles leading this country never cease to suprise us.
