Whose Victory and Whose Defeat Are they Anyway?

The Democrat tsunami in the US is a harbinger of the next few decades around the world.

The massive crushing defeat of Trump and his conservative GOP-MAGA gangsters portend major upheavals worldwide.

It is the victory of liberal democracy over dictatorial autocracy. Europeans should be looking at the US right now and re-thinking their own sinking into their own right-wing conservative sewers like Le Pen in France, Meloni in Italy, Orban in Hungary and the rest of them. Their hysterical overreaction to immigrants from their former colonies is not the alarming threat that Putin, Le Pen and other rightwing Fascists have been describing. The Fascists want to destroy democracy, just like Hitler and Mussolini did some 100 years ago, scapegoating fake enemies like Jews, Gypsies, and Ethiopians. Similarly, today's racist Fascists like Trump, Le Pen and others have chosen to leverage an artificial fear among their populations by scapegoating dark-skinned non-Christian immigrants.

The fact is that migrations have been taking place ever since Homo sapiens became a distinct species. Take France for example. The Gaulois celtic bedrock has not disappeared despite a multitude of migrations and invasions. In the southeast, the Roman invasion and occupation. In the southwest, the Arab Muslim Moorish invasion and occupation. In the northeast, a recurrent German invasion and annexation of the Alsace-Lorraine. In the northwest, the English invasions and occupations went on for centuries. In the north, the Norsemen and Vikings also had their share. Ultimately, all these outsiders came, settled, integrated and became French, and France remained France.

Today's massive migrations from the East and the South may seem disturbing at first glance, but they are not military to begin with like the ones that peppered France's history, but they are a boost to the working population of a country with a declining birthrate, and a couple of generations from now, these people would have integrated and become indistinguishable from the average French. Of course, like all their predecessors, they will leave their mark on French culture, but they will not fundamentally alter it.

Therefore, the fear that many rightwing fascists are trying to instill in their populations against the migrants and immigrants is misplaced and is only exploited by them to gain control of government. This week's massive defeat of Trump's conservative Fascists is evidence that democracy welcomes change without cruelty, racism and hate. Latin American migrants and immigrants are Christians, they are not Muslims as many migrants to Europe are. This proves that the worldwide rightwing Fascist campaign against migrants has nothing to do with whether the migrants are Muslims or Christians or Hindus or Buddhists. It's just racist whose sole object is to seize power.

If Americans were so afraid of the Latin American migrants as Trump would have wanted them to be, they would have kept his party in power. But they rejected him and his party, indicating that they welcome migrants who work the million jobs that Americans are unable or unwilling to do. Similarly in Europe, the fear instilled against migrants by Le Pen, Meloni and other fascists in their populations has nothing to do with the religious affiliation of these migrants. Europe badly needs these migrants to work, pay taxes, fund the retirement of older generations and maintain a demography in decline due to low birthrates.

The answer to Muslim fundamentalism is NOT to fall back on Jewish fundamentalism (as the Zionist colony in Palestine is doing) nor is it to fall back on Christian fundamentalism (as many in Europe or the US are doing). The answer to ANY and ALL religious fundamentalisms is to further reinforce the democratic principles that have allowed Europe to be free of wars for the first time in centuries and to have reached a reasonable level of development. Democracy is messy and difficult to sustain; it is not even an objective as much as it is a method, a method that has shown itself to be the best so far that human societies have come up with. There is no perfect political system, and democracy is not perfect. But it is so much better than dictatorships, religious theocracies, autocracies....

The victory of the Democrats in the US is as much a victory for democracy as it is a refutation (by an  avowedly very conservative American society) of a rapist, brutal and cruel capitalistic conservatism that refuses change because change threatens its grip on power and money. Trump personifies this greedy unprincipled conservatism whose sole object is enrichment of the few at the detriment of the many.

Let us hope that Europe and the rest of the world will follow suit.
