More MAGA Republicans Swerve to the Center and Talk Like Democrats

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt says he has tested positive for COVID-19Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) taking off his MAGA mask to speak like a moderate, like a Democrat.

Increasing numbers of MAGA republicans are taking a centrist approach to America's Trump-induced ailments. As they try to appear less MAGA to the voting public in view of the upcoming congressional elections next November, they sound more and more like Democrats!

Democrats were never for illegal immigration. They always called for "common sense" policies that balance the need for labor with upholding the law. But Trump demonized them and accused them of all sorts of evils. He still does blame them for his own failures, even after one year in power. Now his own MAGA idiots are detaching themsleves from his radical policies and are adopting centrist, Democrat-like postures. They fear the impending slaughter of the GOP-MAGA-Republicans in next November's elections and, as expected of unprincipled barbarians, they are becoming Democrats!

Republican governor questions goal of Trump immigration crackdown: ‘What is the endgame?’

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) expressed concern about the broader goals of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown Sunday, less than 24 hours after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot an American citizen in Minneapolis.

Stitt told host Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” that while the Biden administration’s immigration policies were “disastrous,” President Trump is “getting bad advice” on the subject.

“Americans are asking themselves, ‘What is the endgame? What is the solution?’ And we believe in federalism and state rights,” he said. “And nobody likes feds coming into their state.”

“And so, what’s the goal right now? Is it to deport every single non-U.S. citizen? I don’t think that’s what Americans want,” Stitt continued. “We have to stop politicizing this. We need real solutions on immigration reform.”

Saturday’s shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent came less than three weeks after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good, also a U.S. citizen.

The incidents sparked widespread demonstrations against the administration’s deployment of CBP and ICE personnel to Democratic-run cities nationwide, along with calls from Democratic lawmakers to rein in those agencies.

While the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday that more than 675,000 people have been deported and roughly 2.2 million people have left the country voluntarily since President Trump returned to office, Stitt wants “real solutions” on reforming the immigration system.

One idea he referenced is allowing states to issue workforce permits, an authority that lies solely with the federal government. Stitt, the chair of the National Governors Association (NGA), also proposed charging employers $5,000 if they hire noncitizens, a sum that can help “pay down the national debt and to incentivize them to hire Americans.”

“If you’re going to have an employer-employee relationship, we should be fixing that, instead of politicizing this,” the Oklahoma Republican said. “And right now, tempers are just going crazy, and we need to calm this down.”

Also Sunday, Stitt and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D), the vice chair of the NGA, issued a joint statement calling on the federal government to cooperate with local and state authorities on immigration enforcement.

“America’s strength has long rested on a system of cooperative federalism,” they wrote. “Governors are closest to conditions on the ground and are best positioned to respond to challenges within their states and territories, particularly those involving public safety.”

“At the same time, moments of national strain require clear leadership, shared purpose, and coordination across all levels of government.”
