Arizona Woman Stabs Boyfriend, Allegedly Declares: "Today Is My Independence Day"

An Arizona woman is facing multiple charges after attacking her boyfriend on Thanksgiving.

Tamala Rudeseal, 52, was arrested after she allegedly slashed the victim’s throat. Authorities have charged her with attempted murder and aggravated assault, the Mesa Police Department confirmed to Oxygen.com.

Police officers were dispatched Nov. 27 to an apartment complex in Mesa—nearly 20 miles east of Phoenix—detaining Rudeseal at the scene and rushing her boyfriend of 11 years to a nearby hospital, per law enforcement.

The victim underwent emergency surgery for a laceration to his throat, with officials saying he is expected to survive.

Authorities alleged that she told a 911 dispatcher that she slit her boyfriend’s throat, KTVK reported, citing court documents.

The outlet also reported that Rudeseal was heard saying, “I did just try to murder you” and “today is my Independence Day.”

At the scene, investigators discovered a large folding knife near where they first found Rudeseal, according to 12 News.

No details have been shared by authorities surrounding the alleged victim’s identity.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office told Oxygen.com that Rudeseal’s case is “currently under review by our office,” with no other statements available at this time.

Rudeseal’s boyfriend—who allegedly controlled the bleeding from his wound with a shirt—suffered from a deep cut that extended from his left ear to the center of his neck, per KTVK’s reporting.

Speaking with detectives, the man claimed Rudeseal often becomes depressed around the holidays and that they had argued leading up to the alleged attack, according to the outlet.

When investigators asked Rudeseal whether she attempted to kill her boyfriend, KTVK reported that her alleged reply was, “Yes. God, I hope he is dead; it’d be a favor to me, his wife, and his children.”

Rudeseal also allegedly told responding officers that her boyfriend, “Does not do anything around the house,” per 12 News.
