He won, so there was no fraud. Had he lost, he'd be screaming and dispatching his militia to the Capitol.
But true to itself, dumb and ugly America has elected its true representative, the dumb and ugly - bête et méchant - Donald Trump.
If his first term is any guide, and unless he gets a miraculous makeover, I am looking at four years of heartache, headaches, deep divisions and haphazard policies that favor the whites of America, the racists of America, and the rich of America.
Those whom he recruited to be his associates and aides have virtually all left slamming the door and calling him an idiot, a moron, a barbarian.... They were all of the classy class of republicans. None of them is likely to come back. So Trump will have scoop them out of the bottom of the republican barrel, unfettered extremists untested by the real world.
This second term for Trump is likely to be more chaotic and radical, especially that the man-child is now older, more senile and demented. And worse, he's probably going to seek revenge against all those whom he perceives to have persecuted him, those "enemies of the interior".
It never seems to get better in America because the country remains an adolescent with acne who thinks only he "knows what to do and fix it alone". The US is indeed some 250 years old in the parchments and documents it produced two centuries ago, but on the ground it is an incomplete experiment that has yet to mature. The demographics are changing and the founding stock of ignorant European peasants resents the change. What will it take for maturity to set in and for reason to impose itself in a world that is very different from the world it saw the birth of the country?
