It is not enough for Michel Aoun to have sold his country and his conscience to Syria, he is still cavorting to the Damascus butcher who not only has killed half a million of his own people - something that makes Aoun nostalgic of his own butcheries back in the 1980s - but Assad and his father, for the 5 decades of their brutal and vulgar Syrian dictatorship, have occupied and transformed neighboring Lebanon into a cesspool of wars, corruption, and a shooting and bombing range for all kinds of killings and assassinations. The Assads lost all their wars and the Golan Heights after been defeated several times by Israel; so they turned their criminality onto Lebanon where the Lebanese Christians - the other "aliens" in the Arab Muslim world - became their voodoo doll, a substitute for the Jewish Israel they could never defeat.
For too long and to this date, Assad has held Lebanon hostage to a dubious solution to the Israeli-Palestinian problem through his support of the PLO (1960s-1980s) and the Iranian militia Hezbollah (1990s-to-date), a political ally of Aoun. In more recent times, Assad has sent 2+ million Syrians pretending to be refugees inside Lebanon, in another form of blackmail that has ruined the Lebanese State and led to its collapse. If one Syrian refugee in Annecy, France, can cause deaths and shock the world, imagine what 2+ million Syrian refugees can do to a country like Lebanon with its 4 million native population.
Even with his disgusting reintegration into the cloacal sewer that is the Arab League, Assad is not expected to change his mode of operation. He is a wanted criminal by the international justice system, yet he plays nice now hoping to be forgiven. But the Arabs, in collusion with the United States, have so many times sold Lebanon to Syria in the past that it would be foolish and dangerous to trust the Arabs now. The Arab Sewer League couldn't even slap the butcher Assad on the hand, let alone hold him to account for genocide or help Lebanon extirpate itself from the ongoing Syrian rape of the country.
After threatening the Assads with bringing Damascus over their heads back in the 1980s, the traitor Michel Aoun continues to move the knife in the many Syrian-inflicted wounds of Lebanon. For some 70 years since independence in the 1940s, the Assad regime refused to recognize the right of Lebanon to exist as a sovereign independent nation. It refused, until it was forced by circumstance in 2008 to exchange ambassadors with Beirut, and it often closed its border to punish and blackmail the Lebanese for daring to oppose the crimes of the Assads. Yet, now that Syria's ally Hezbollah and its millions of fake refugees hold Lebanon hostage, Assad has opened his border for smuggling subsidized goods, illicit drugs, weapons, hard curreny, and radical Islamists. For decades, Syria funded and armed numerous terror organizations inside Lebanon to destabilize the country. It fomented the Lebanese War of 1975 via its support of Arafat's PLO and his treasonous Muslim Lebanese allies. Syria occupied Lebanon with its army and intelligence services for 30 years (1975-2005), mass-murdering, shelling, assassinating, torturing and kidnapping thousands of innocent people. What you see Putin doing in Ukraine today for the past 4 months, Assad did in Lebanon during 30 long years and continues to do so to this day.
Even at 87 years of age, Assad's senile lackey Michel Aoun, is visiting Damascus. One wonders what brings Aoun in his diapers to visit the Damascus butcher. He naturally wants to pay hommage to his master, but he was most likely dispatched there by his son-in-law, the cretinous Gebran Bassil, to beseech Assad for help: Bassil has been dumped like a sack of manure by the Iranian terrorist militia of Hezbollah with whom he had an "understanding" - How can any reasonable person have an understanding with Islamic fundamentalist terrorists and missile-toting criminals? Despised by virtually all the Christians in the country for his failed treasonous affair with the Iranians and the Syrians, Bassil stands to be the biggest loser in any outcome of the current crisis. He's got no friends left, the Christians hate him (even as he pretends to defend them against his own allies!), his Muslim allies hate him, and he is under US sanctions by the US Treasury. Just as he ascended politically on his father-in-law's cottails, he has now reverted back to parading his senile father-in-law like a dummy as a way to regain some legitimacy within his own inner circle where the old man is still adulated.
If Aoun thinks that beseeching Assad for help in re-floating the sinking Bassil is a good idea, then he is more than senile. Just like so many of his "good" ideas in his treacherous past that led him and the country nowhere but down, except perhaps that it landed him in the presidential seat in 2016 thanks to Hezbollah's missiles, where he proceeded to further dismantle the country and run it down in the mud.
