Hopeless Helpless Lebanon: That is why Lebanon Iznogood

The Lebanese government is made up of uncultured brutes who do not understand the value of their own country and persist in destroying it for a few dollars. Instead of making its priority the preservation of the only real resource that Lebanon has - its environment and its historic heritage - the Lebanese government's priority is to liberate Palestine, the Golan, and Jerusalem for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Bashar Asad, and the entire 1.2 fucking billion Muslims on earth. Yes, Lebanon's 3.5 million people are destroying their own country in order to save someone else's. This altruism leads them to continuously produce saints, martyrs, sayyids and all kinds of holy fuckers who are beatified every other year at the Vatican and worshipped in such places as Mecca and Qom and Rome.

In their neanderthal primitive brutality and cerebral density, the Lebanese don't understand that they stand to make more money on the long term by preserving and conserving their country, rather than by transforming it into a forest of ugly buildings that they then sell to rich Gulf Arabs, as they are doing now. They just don't get it. And the Lebanese people are so stupid that they keep bringing those same people to power. The Lebanese are basically committing suicide the way they are managing their country today.

Here are excerpts of what Yvonne Sursock Cochrane, an advocate of preservation, conservation, and the environment, told Lebanon Now:

Aline Sara, Lebanon Now
October 17, 2010

Lady Yvonne Sursock Cochrane has been fighting to preserve Lebanon’s heritage since 1960 when she founded the country’s first organization on the matter, the Association for the Protection of the Natural Sites and Ancient Buildings (APSAD). She presided APSAD from 1960 until 2002. Today, she continues in her battle, although pessimistic about prospects. NOW Lebanon spoke with Lady Cochrane at the Sursock palace in Beirut to listen to her concerns in more depth.

Tell us about your involvement in APSAD and the organization.

Lady Yvonne Sursock Cochrane: I founded APSAD at the end of the 1950s because, looking out of the windows of this house, I realized the view, which was absolutely magnificent, was becoming less magnificent due to anonymous building creeping up and taking up space, buildings that have absolutely no architectural value of any sort.
I noticed this was the trend, and something needed to be done about it. At the time, Beirut was still beautiful. We started as three [people], and gradually formed a committee of more people. We tried to get more people involved, but as you know, we’ve seldom had people of culture in our government.
At first, the government didn’t take us seriously and looked at us with a condescending kindness. To them, why should men deal with such futile questions? But, gradually they realized we meant business and became more cooperative. The problem is with parliament, which is a disaster.
We grew and formed a committee of 12 people, and we started trying to explain to people we had a magnificent heritage. We published the first book on the subject, “L’habitation au Liban” [Housing in Lebanon]. Today, there’s almost a book a week on the subject. Unfortunately, it doesn’t translate on the ground because, to begin with, people in our parliament are uncultured. They just don’t understand what they are talking about, despite [the presence of] some very good ministers.

Can you name of few of them?

Lady Cochrane: Well there are good ministers, but nobody listens to them! [Former Culture Minister] Tamam Salam made a series of good proposals; none of them passed. [Current Culture Minster Salim] Warde said to me, “There is not one of my proposals being accepted. There’s nothing I can do. I’m just sitting there.” [Former Culture Minister Tarek] Mitri told me he tried to pass a law suppressing [the inheritance tax] on listed houses, four years ago. But these people [parliament] just don’t understand that we have very few listed buildings and that in most countries, you remove the [inheritance tax] on listed buildings so people have a possibility of restoring. There are so few listed buildings, how much could they lose anyway? Taxes are important they say. But they are losing heritage!

So the bulk of the problem is the government and municipality. What are your thoughts about civil society initiatives such as Save Beirut Heritage?

Lady Cochrane: They are very good and work with APSAD and are trying to get all the different organizations together. It is very important to have the young actively involved. That is why I’ve been trying to get universities, like [the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts] ALBA and Kaslik to organize to teach [students] about this. There are so many things they don’t know. Do any of the students know that in capital cities like Paris, there are no land prices? The speculation there is on the building, not on the land itself. In Lebanon, it is based on land prices. Most of our skyscrapers are empty. The Lebanese are so keen on copying. They copy Dubai, Manhattan. Lebanese copy and don’t realize that top society Americans live in old homes outside of Manhattan, for example.

Some architects have voiced criticism [http://www.nowlebanon.com/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?ID=204196] of Solidere’s work downtown. What are your thoughts?

Lady Cochrane: When Solidere started destroying Beirut, APSAD was upset. We sent articles in Europe, everywhere, about what was happening. Of course, this upset [former Prime Minister Rafik] Hariri, who, let’s face it, was a very intelligent man. And he wrote a book called Beirut Reborn which he sent to me and said, “I hope you’re satisfied.” What ended up happening was that some buildings that were going to be destroyed were restored. So he did a lot of restoration, which were the parts of the city that are the most popular today.

Lebanon is the only country in the region without a law to preserve our heritage. Is there any hope this will change?

Lady Cochrane: I know Warde and Mitri both tried to pass a law. But there is no hope; I think that in the next 20 years these empty skyscrapers will be taken by squatters. Look at what [MP Nicolas] Fattoush is doing with the quarries! That’s another problem. They also want to build a village on Sanine [mountain], one of our most important sources of water. Lebanon will just become a desert! We’ve tried to stop them from doing this, but they are decided to build.

If you had one recommendation for Lebanese youth, what would it be?

Lady Cochrane: I think people are realizing Beirut is becoming a monster. But it’s too late.  It’s very difficult to change anything now. Beirut is overbuilt and destroyed. ...  In Beirut, you’d have to tear down all the skyscrapers... And rebuild Beirut according to ...Beirut as a garden city. It was a lovely garden city along the Mediterranean.

But practically speaking, what can young Lebanese activists do?

Lady Cochrane: What we need especially is a municipality. We should have trains. We’ve had them before. But Lebanese don’t go in the train. “Ayb” [Shame]. They don’t walk either.

Is there any hope for public transportation in Lebanon?

Lady Cochrane: No, because they make too much money with the cars coming into the country. Any time a car comes in, someone makes money. It means that in a few years, we won’t be able to get out of our houses. They don’t think of things like that. They are not interested.

Follow Sudan's Example: Dismantle the Arab Fallacy

The Sudanese Animists and Christians will soon secede from the artificial "Arab" country of Sudan. I don't see anything Arab coming out of Sudan anyway. They are all blacks to begin with, and they live in Africa. A tiny Muslim minority in the North has ruled brutally over the Animists and Christians in the South, and the country has been unstable since its independence from fucking English who never left a place without leaving behind them mass massacres, genocidal regimes, partitioned countries and people - Just look around the globe: Sudan, Nigeria, India, Israel-Palestine....

After decades of civil war, the Southern Sudanese will soon have their own country: They just can't wait to detach themselves from the Muslim "Arab" fuck that has been ruling them for decades.

Many countries in the "fallacies" that call themselves Arab countries and Arab world should do the same - Egypt for one should be broken down- The Copts should have their own country - They are the original culture and people of Pharaonic Egypt, long before the conquering Islamic Arab hordes came.

Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran should be trimmed of the Kurdish regions they colonized after World War I. Instead of granting the Kurdish people - who are distinct in their language, civilization, ethnicity, and the mountain geography they have occupied for millennia - their independence, the Kurds were scattered across four different Arab and Muslim countries that have since occupied, colonized, and brutalized them. Kurdistan should be restored and unified into the Kurdish people homeland. What would remain of Iraq after the Kurdish secession, should be further split into a Sunni northwest and a Shiite southeast.

Algeria should be split into two - the Muslim Arabs of the seacoast, and the original Berbers - Kabyles - Amazigh of the east and southern mountains. Lebanon should be fractured into as many tiny cantons as there are religious minorities, each ruling itself in a tiny geographic space - a la Switzerland - and then if they wish, they can federate in some fashion, instead of this total failure of a country that Lebanon is today, based as it is on an untenable formula of coexistence between Muslim and Christian.

Syria - this pathetic artificial country created by the French from an assortment of unrelated cities separated by large deserts - should also be broken down. Along the Mediterranean, the Alawites should form their own canton, and if they so choose, federate with the Lebanese cantons. In the north, Aleppo should return to its Turkish-Caucasian origins, with Syria reduced to its remaining three Sunni cities of Damascus, Hama and Homs. This smaller Syria may federate with the Sunni Iraqi canton because they represent together a continuum of Sunni desert Arabs.

Coexistence does not work, neither between religious systems, nor does it work for that matter between different ethnic or linguistic groups unless religious identities or subnational identities are eliminated from the start. A religious ideology is always absolutely based on a racist supremacist premise: "I have the truth, and the other guy does not. God gave me the exclusive truth." That is how Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the millions of offshoots they have spawned, that is how they all define themselves. How can they then accept the other? The moment they accept the other as holder of some truth, then their own identity breaks down. There is an inevitability to the self-destruction of religious systems the moment they embrace tolerance and acceptance, which leads societies like these to either fall into radical religious ideologies (to preserve the status quo) or to liberalize into tolerant and open - and therefore anti-religious - societies. There is no middle ground. Show me one heterogeneous, pluralistic, democratic country and society that has not ended up discarding religion or sub-nationalisms in order to preserve itself. They just don't exist. The only two alternatives that exist are: Either secular at relative peace (Switzerland, US), or deeply religious at war (e.g. Lebanon, Israel, many Arab countries).

I salute the partition of Sudan and urge the world to support repeating the Sudanese experience elsewhere, without waiting for bloodshed, civil wars, massacres, and the like. Why not take a proactive, preemptive approach to these chronic and predictable crises? Why not propose the partition of Lebanon, Egypt, etc. The independence of Corsica from France, etc. Everywhere there is a population difference (linguistic, religious, ethnic, etc.), a political and geographic line should follow. This will avert future wars, genocides, massacres....

And to those criminal left-wingers in the West who find these ideas of breaking up Arab countries repugnant - and I am thinking of Robert Fisk and his ilk - you just broke Serbia apart to give the fucked up Islamic shithole called Kosovo its independence. Europe itself is littered with the remnants of thousands of year of bloody and gory mayhem, or religious wars, of brutal and racist empires and so on. Just look at Corsica, Luxemburg, Belgium, and the Great Albion itself - "Great" fucking Britain - which is nothing more than a forced amalgam of invaders and conquered minorities - Angles and Saxons (of Nazi German descent), Normans (the Scandinavian Brutes who had barely come down the trees and embarked on their plunder and mayhem) etc... lording it over the indigenous Celts, Scots, Welsh and Irish.... And to which the new conquerors - Muslims - are already adding their stamp.  Yes, if you repress people long enough by blood and the sword, they finally start believing in the oppressor as their savior - a case of Stockholm Syndrome on a supranational scale.

Break them up, I say. Autonomy, self-government, independence, self-rule, cantonization, emancipation...are all good words and good works.

AHAMDINEJAD: GO TO HELL - DON'T COME TO LEBANON

Shoeshine boy Mahmoud Ahmadinejad           and  Toilet cleaner Hassan Ibn Al-Mut3ah Nasrallah

These two idiots use the Lebanese people like cannon fodder, and my country of Lebanon has been destroyed a million times by them, to "liberate" Palestine. Meanwhile the Palestinians are talking peace with Israel, Egypt and Jordan have exchanged embassies with Israel and most Arab countries are "done" with liberating fucking Palestine.

So I ask Sayyid Toilet Cleaner Hassan and his boss Shoeshine Boyfucker Mahmoud:
Why only the Shiite Lebanese are liberating Palestine?
Why only tiny Lebanon is fighting Israel, while the other 400 million Arabs and Iranians are doing nothing?
Where are the "glorious" Muslim armies? Where is the fucking glorious Arab and Muslim Nation?

The answer: They are all cowards. And they are all smart. While they cheer the Lebanese from behind the front lines, they are also building their countries and developing. They all want only the Lebanese to fight and the Lebanese, stupid as they are, oblige. The stupid Lebanese have been at war since 1965 to liberate Palestine. The stupid Lebanese don't even have electricity and running water, their best and brightest continue to leave the country, and the country is practically destroyed without any future. Why? Because the Lebanese people are stupid for accepting to being the only Arab numskulls to fight Israel and liberate Palestine, while the Palestinian themselves don;t want to do it anymore. Even the imbecile cheerleader in Damascus, Bashar Asslicker Assad, cheers the Lebanese from behind to fight and get beaten up, while maintaining a strict ceasefire on his Israeli-annexed Golan since 1973. IF RESISTANCE IS SUCH A GREAT THING, WHY ISN'T HEZBOLLAH RESISTING AND FIGHTING AND LIBERATING THE GOLAN FROM SYRIA?

To be "pro-Syrian" in Lebanon means to be a total idiot - like General Don Quixote Michel Aoun, Toilet Cleaner Hassan Nasrallah, the fat clown Wi'am Wahhab and Aoun's poodle Jibran Bassil. I personally can't stand the other Lebanese politicians either, from Hariri to Gemayel, Geagea and especially the reputed Druze pedophile Walid Jumblatt. But at least, they are on the right side of the issue this time around, even after committing mass murder, genocide and crimes against humanity during 15 years of war between 1975-1990.

When are the Lebanese people wake up?

The FILTHY IRANIAN DOG, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is NOT WELCOME in LEBANON.

This miscreant criminal's visit is a SHAME ON LEBANON.

This Islamic Persian terrorist is a PERSONA NON GRATA in LEBANON.

This insane primitive Muslim from the Middle Ages WILL BE PELTED WITH ROTTEN EGGS in LEBANON.

President MICHEL SULEIMAN of LEBANON should refuse to meet this MONSTER, this DICTATOR, this RELIGIOUS FANATIC who is USING LEBANON TO ADVANCE HIS OWN INTERESTS and not the interests of Lebanon. President Suleiman should not make the same mistake of kissing the hand of the CRIMINAL SAMIR KUNTAR by kissing the hand of the CRIMINAL MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD.

Prime Minister RAFIK HARIRI should refuse to meet with HIS FATHER'S KILLER. Hariri knows that AHMADINEJAD's MILITIA IN LEBANON- HEZBOLLAH and its Iranian toilet cleaner leader HASSAN NASRALLAH - killed his father. If SAAD HARIRI has any dignity left in him, he should save it by not meeting the criminal Ahmadinejad. Hariri has already sullied himself and his father's memory by kissing the hands of BASHAR ASSAD, he should not do it again.

MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD WILL BE TREATED LIKE A DOG IN LEBANON. There will be DEMONSTRATIONS AND PROTESTS AGAINST THIS BARBARIC DESPOT. His visit will be regretted by those who invited him.

AHMADINEJAD:                GO TO HELL - DON'T COME TO LEBANON
