Fares Khashan has been a commentator in the Lebanese progressive, left wing, pro-Arab, anti-West, pro-Hezbollah, pro-Iran, pro-Syria etc... newspaper AL-SAFIR for many years and decades.
He is the ultimate traitor whose ideas and positions change with the blowing winds.
Here is an example of what he used to write back around 2001, when his hero was Hezbollah, his cause was the so-called "liberation" of south Lebanon and the Shebaa Farms, his idol was Bashar Assad and the Syrian regime..... and his enemies were everyone else: Michel Aoun, the US, Europe, the Lebanese Christians, etc... :
and this is what he is writing today, in view of Hezbollah's intervention in the Syrian war and its plunging Lebanon into a new civil war. Khashan now rejects all his previous positions - without any acknowldegment of having made a mistake - and is now an ardent anti-Assad, anti-Hezbollah, pro-Sunni revolution in Syria... It may be because he is a Sunni (not sure?), or because the Qataris or Saudis have decided to pay him more than his Iranian clients... who knows? But this is typical journalism in the Arab-Muslim world:
Today, Fares Khashan has turned against Hezbollah. There is nothing wrong with changing one's position on a given matter, but shouldn;t this jackass at least acknowldege having made a mistake? Or provide some explanation as to why Hezbollah the liberator, the resistance against the savage and imperial west was an act of heroism THEN? But NOW, those same acts and actors of Hezbollah have become crimes against Arabism and Islamism to the point of begging the West for help in defeating that same Hezbollah. I have more respect for prostitutes and mercenaries than for Khashan and his ilk.
Shouldn't these "elite" thinkers and pseudo-intellectuals be prosecuted for treason to their own ideas? For dragging the thinking of people behind them in the defense of criminals, then when the criminal turns his rifle on them, drag the people's thinking in exactly the opposite direction?
