Finally Some Good News: No Hijab Allowed in Lebanon's Military

For a rare once, I can say I am proud of being Lebanese. No religious symbols allowed in the Lebanese military. That's the law, and it should be extended to the entire political system to rid it of all the divisive implements of the religious sects and organized cults that make up this country's constitution and political system.

Here is the face of a liberal Lebanon, just like the French law banning the fucking primitive burka on the streets, or banning all religious symbols from schools. But unlike the French who banned religion from their political lives in their 1789 revolution, the Lebanese remain slaves to primitive religious ideas that are so pervasive through their lives. The Lebanese Christians for example truly believe that saints make miracles, which is why they produce a new saint every year and embarrass even the Vatican. On the other side, Lebanese Muslims are rife with Islamic fundamentalist beliefs that even the Taliban would not espouse.

In essence, unelected patriarchs and mullahs and bishops and muftis (and all kinds of grandiose titles given to old smelly men with beards and strange-looking hats) have more of a say in my daily life than the numskull politicians I vote for.

You see, Lebanon is liberal despite itself. It does not WANT to be liberal; it HAS to be liberal. If Lebanon was made of one or two religious sects, it will be a very barbaric and primitive place. But because it is made up of 18 competing religious cults, there is a default balancing equation that prevents any of the sects from taking over, and so without even wanting, the Lebanese appear to be liberal. So the fact that the Lebanese military bans the wearing of religious symbols does not mean that the Lebanese military is a bastion of liberal thinking. It simply means that the military wants to eliminate any pretext within its ranks for the savage brutes who enlist to kill one another. The Lebanese armed forces did split in 1976 along religious lines, which paralyzed the army and prevented it from carrying out its duties at the time, namely to destroy Yasser Arafat's PLO and prevent the war. But the motherfucker Lebanese Sunnis sided with the Palestinians against their own fellow Lebanese Christians and allowed the Palestinians to drag Lebanon into a war whose end is yet to come.

But, still, the banning of these Hezbollah women pro-Iranian spies trying to enlist in the Security Forces as a good sign. We want no veils, no tchadors, no crosses, no hijabs, no other khara religious crap in our daily lives. Bravo to the Security Forces and to the Lebanese military.

Hijab-wearing policewomen banned from military in Lebanon

Lebanese authorities are weighing up what action to take after a group of newly recruited policewomen showed up for training wearing the hijab, a security official said on Friday. The policewomen, numbering nearly 40 and all reportedly Shia Muslims, were among hundreds who sat for an exam to join the Internal Security Forces earlier this year.

But when they turned up for their first training exercise this week, they wore the hijab, an Islamic headscarf, which goes against the military's code of conduct, the security official told AFP. A government official said several of the policewomen agreed to remove the garment, but about 20 refused and did not take part in the training session.

"According to the military code of conduct, whether it be for the police, army or general security, all religious symbols are not allowed," said the security official who requested anonymity. "Any symbols linked to a community or religion are banned, whether it be a cross, a veil or any other symbol," he added. "We are simply applying the law."
